Dinners

Dinner is one of the best ways to meet people at PyCon AU. Any night of the conference works, and we're nudging you towards Friday 28 August. Make it your one dinner night, and go with people you haven't met yet.

Ask the group next to you at afternoon tea what they're doing, or say yes when someone asks you.

Things to consider

  • Pick a cuisine, or a dietary theme, so you can find a convenient restaurant.
  • Aim for a price point. Some of the best conference dinners are affordable burgers around the corner!
  • Figure out how far you want to go. Brisbane has 50c public transport and the train station is just downstairs.

Here are a few places to get you started.

Food courts near Brisbane Central

A few minutes' walk from the venue, and hard to beat for a big group. Everyone orders separately, so a mix of dietary needs and budgets sorts itself out. Post Office Square is a good starting point, with several more around the Queen Street Mall and Adelaide Street.

South Bank

Hop on a 50c train from Central to South Bank for riverside dining along Little Stanley Street and the Riverside Terrace, with the city skyline across the water. Yes, there's New Zealand real fruit ice cream down there too.

Fortitude Valley

A short train ride or a walk from the venue, with an assortment of bars and restaurants packed into a few blocks around Brunswick Street Mall and Chinatown. Good pick if your group wants a livelier night, or somewhere to keep talking afterwards.

Go anywhere you like

This isn't an all-inclusive list, just some ideas for you all. Go wherever you fancy, and take someone new with you.
