Today we’re excited to open our Call For Proposals (CFP).
In 2026 we’re inviting session in a number of different formats:
The call for proposals is open from today through to 29 March 2026, Anywhere on Earth (UTC-12).
If you’ve submitted to PyCon AU in the past, you’ll notice we’ve revamped our documentation for applying to speak. Our guidelines have been updated for 2026, so please take some time to familiarise yourself with how best to put forward a successful proposal this year.
In 2026 we have several specialist tracks, both new and returning!
Our specialist tracks need your support to fill a full schedule! Take some time to learn more about specialist tracks at PyCon AU 2026 and make sure you submit your talk ideas early!
PyCon AU is an actively welcoming environment for first time speakers. To support new and returning speakers, we’re hosting a series of talk writing workshops around Australia to help you brainstorm and draft your talk proposals.
As of today there are 5 workshops, scheduled in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane, and two online for remote participation. We hope to add more locations and dates really soon - so watch this space!
Find a workshop near you, or one one for your local community!
Several previous speakers at PyCon AU have volunteered to provide feedback and mentorship during this year’s CFP. These mentors are happy to offer feedback on your proposal ideas, review your drafts, and to help you improve your abstracts prior to the CFP deadline. Please be respectful of our mentor’s time as they are volunteers.
To get connected to a mentor, please email program@pycon.org.au with a brief outline of your talk topic but do not include your draft abstract. We’ll do our best to connect you with a mentor to help.
Top tip: Reach out early, as mentors are always busy in the lead up to CFP closing.
Don’t forget, the call for proposals closes Sunday 11:59pm 29 March 2026 AOE.
Around Australia & New Zealand that is:
Or check the deadline for wherever you’re submitting from.
Please note: we recommend that talk submissions on timezones should be novel to Australians ;)
Have questions? We’d love to hear from you! You can always email program@pycon.org.au.
